Some young women do not sufficiently know the advantages of a happy nature, and how useful it would be to them to abandon themselves to it; they weaken these gifts of heaven, which are so rare and fragile, by affected manners and bad imitations: they borrow the tone of their voice and their gait from other people; they compose themselves, make themselves up and look into the mirror to see if they are far enough from their natural self. It isn't without difficulty that they end up pleasing others less.
