Hermas,
if I marry a stingy woman, she won't ruin me; if I marry a gambler, she might
make me richer; if a learned woman, she might teach me; if a prude, she won't
get carried away; if a woman who gets carried away, she will teach me patience;
if a coquette, she would want to please me; if a gallant woman, she may be so
gallant as to love me; but if I marry a woman falsely pious, Hermas, what can I
expect; from a woman who would want to deceive God and who deceives herself?
